Acura RSX: Integra Again

Acura’s Integra is now the RSX, a sporty head-turning three door coupe. Read on to learn exactly what powers this car and the future plans Honda has for the model.

Acura RSX, Acura Integra, Acura TL, Acura RL, Acura Legend, Acura NSX, Acura MDX, Honda Accord, BMW

Back in 1986, when the Acura brand was introduced by the Honda Motor Company, two models started it all: the Legend and the Integra. Since that time several additional models have joined the Acura line up and the two original models were renamed: the Legend became the RL and the Integra was renamed the RSX. Today’s RSX ?a three door hatchback — continues to offer pretty much what the original Integra stood for: luxury, engineering, and value. Let’s take a closer look at this popular seller and what the car means to both the driver and to the company.

Honda’s introduction of Acura was prior to and done slightly different than Toyota’s introduction of Lexus and Nissan’s roll out of Infiniti. Unlike its Japanese cousins who were introducing pure luxury brands, Honda decided to include “near luxury?as well as luxury cars in the Acura mix. This marketing method was Kind of like selling Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles under one name, but without the creation of a third brand. Honda’s strategy has paid off as the Integra/RSX has been a popular seller and a nice bridge for Honda loyalists looking for something a bit more refined than the typical Honda, but without the Acura price. Truly, a star was born with the Integra and continues to shine with the RSX.

For driver’s, the RSX offers a gusto not found on the average Honda, giving it plenty of room to be “specially tuned?by the aftermarket crowd. With 17 inch tires, 6 speed transmission, and 7 speaker Bose sound system, the RSX has been designed to provide optimal driving fun at an affordable price. Featuring 2+2 seating, sport styling, and a 201horspower VTEC engine, the four banger RSX effectively combines performance with fuel efficiency.

For the Honda Motor Company, the RSX has helped to keep Acura sales strong. Recently, the company began to market the Acura brand well beyond its North American roots and the RSX [curiously still called the Integra elsewhere] has led the way. Recently, however, the company has decided to discontinue the RSX to concentrate on further separating the Honda and Acura divisions. Thus, the original intent of Honda for Acura has been changed and Acura will now be exclusively marketed as a luxury brand.

For Integra/RSX lovers all is not lost. Honda will likely sell a similarly equipped Accord while Acura will continue to sell the TSX, a four door upscale version of the RSX. Changing consumer tastes have shown that a near luxury coupe doesn’t have quite as strong as an appeal as a four door sedan, so the RSX will not be produced after 2006.

The Integra/RSX has served Acura and its drivers well; new models are certain to build upon its success as the Acura brand is spread worldwide.

Air Deflectors: Practical and Pleasing

The addition of a particular car part to our vehicle is usually designed to improve its performance, but much as we might try to deny it, appearances matter, and we also want our car to look good. For this reason, many car parts are designed with attractiveness in mind as much as functionality, and sometimes, just sometimes, we can lose the run of ourselves entirely and opt for appearance-enhancing car parts just for the heck of it. Fortunately, car part manufacturers have cottoned on to our love of display, and designed a range of car parts and accessories than combine functionality with looking good. A great example of this trend is development of the air or wind deflector.

Originally designed with a practical purpose in mind, car air deflectors have stepped up a notch and now look as good ?if not better ?than they work practically. With a distinctive look, air deflectors are increasingly added to vehicles to alter their appearance, by adding a sense of flair and style. But with a genuinely practical raison d’etre, an air deflector is the fancy car accessory that does as good as it looks.

An air, or wind, deflector’s job is as simple as it sounds. Fitted at various points on your vehicle, including the hood or roof, this simple device redirects the flow of air so that it travels away from the vehicle itself. This prevents the wind that attacks you as you drive at high speeds from damaging your windshield, and helps stop road debris, including pieces of gravel and small insects, from hitting your screen as you drive, and perhaps obscuring your vision.

Air deflectors may also be used on side windows, preventing the same debris from landing inside the car when the window is open, and also protecting the driver and passengers from rain. Wind deflectors may also be used with a sunroof, helping to reduce the noise generated by the wind and the effects of turbulence upon people in the car. This type of deflector also helps protect passengers from annoying dust and debris entering the car through the sunroof and spoiling a perfectly good road trip!

Air deflectors are available in a range of colors and materials, allowing you to customize this car part’s impact on your vehicle. Choose from a wide range of styles including transparent plastic and matte black, or choose a deflector to match the color of your car. Whatever style you choose, you can be sure that this car part will enhance your driving experience, while also adding style and interest to your vehicle.

Acura: The Improved Luxury Lineup

Honda originally launched their Acura sport and luxury division during 1986, and the company has continually improved their product line ever since. The days of Acura’s driving and performing like their similar Honda counterparts are long gone. Numerous upgrades and enhancements have been made to the Acura vehicles to make them more luxurious and refined than ever before.

When the Acura product line first rolled off the assembly line they had a few top selling vehicles including the Integra, Legend, and Vigor that quickly became popular. Motor Trend even named the Legend coupe as the “Import Car of the Year” back in 1987. In addition they also named the Integra as one of the top 10 best cars to drive on the road. Considering this was a fairly new brand for Honda, the Acura series did exceptionally well in their first few years. This definitely raised the standards for Honda on all of its new models.

Up to this day, Honda’s subsidiary brand still remains a leader in providing high quality, luxury sport coupes and vehicles. Many of the older models, however, have been retired and others replaced with newer models that are being marketed under a few new names such as:

– Acura RL: A midsize, luxury sedan that seats up to 5 passengers
– Acural TL: A midsize, 5 passenger sport luxury sedan
– Acura TSX: A midsize, 5 passenger lower priced alternative to the TL
– Acura RSX: A 4 passenger, sporty coupe priced at around $24,000
– Acura NSX: A fairly expensive 2 passenger exotice sports car
– Acura MSX: A larger 7 passenger luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV)

The new models have definitely changed drastically since the car manufacturer’s line was first introduced in ’86. Interior improvements, technological improvements, and additional standard and luxury features, have been added over the years and especially in the recently released models. Acura is definitely providing some stiff competition for two similar competing Japanese luxury brands (Infiniti and Lexus).

Acura has also created a very stong following for car enthusiasts and aftermarket “tuners” looking to spice up or “trick out” their sport compact. The Acura Integra (now the RSX), is still an ever popular choice among these enthusiasts. Although, this car is probably not quite as popular as Honda’s Civic, it offers many of the same features at a slightly higher price point.

In summary, Honda has clearly brought out an excellent and constantly improving line up of vehicles for consumers both young and old. With everything from small sport compacts to large luxury SUVs, with high quality features and added extras, they are sure to appeal to just about everyone. Loyal Acura enthusiasts and car lovers alike will surely continue to follow the company’s strong brand and well known quality line of vehicles for years to come!

Dodge, Ford to Build Scion Fighters?

By , January 15, 2018 12:41 pm

Scion fighters from Ford and Dodge are being planned for Mexican production and available to consumers in 2008. Will the vehicles compete or be lost in a sea of tiny cars from Nissan, Scion, Honda, Toyota, Daewoo, and China?

Dodge Hornet, Ford Bronco, Scion xB, Nissan Versa, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Scion xA, Hyundai, Kia

Toyota’s Scion brand has been a runaway hit for the Japanese automaker ever since being launched in 2003. Designed to appeal to Generation “Y?buyers, the vehicles are popular, edgy ?some would say ugly ?and have given Toyota an important toehold with young buyers. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are preparing to respond to Scion, but in different ways. GM is planning to import more vehicles from its Daewoo subsidiary while Ford and Chrysler are expected to build all new Scion fighting vehicles in Mexico, good news for motorists looking for affordable and quality vehicles. Let’s take a look at what’s coming down the pike.

For the record, Scion isn’t the only vehicle made for the Generation Y crowd. Honda’s Element and soon to be released Fit subcompact are Scion competitors while the Chevy Cobalt, Dodge Caliper, and Saturn ION are also aimed toward youthful drivers. With that being said, Dodge [Chrysler] and Ford must respond and it appears that both automakers will be fielding Scion fighters within the next two years.

The Dodge Hornet

Lo and behold, Dodge is nearing the finalization of its plans to build the Dodge Hornet. According to industry sources including Edmunds, the Hornet will be based on the VW Polo, a subcompact car built by Volkswagen and popular in the European market. This deal is amazing as Volkswagen and Mercedes [a DaimlerChrysler division, as is Dodge] compete fiercely, especially in Europe. VW has a plant in Mexico that likely will produce the Hornet as the company has excess capacity and the cost advantage that no American manufacturing plant can offer. For its part, VW gets to sell rebadged versions of the Dodge Caravan minivan.

If based on the Polo, the Hornet is expected to use the Polo’s 1.6L engine and be paired with a VW transmission. Beyond that, look for the vehicle to be closer in appearance to the Scion xA design, sport a five door hatchback design, and seat five passengers. Currently, the xA sells for just over $13,000, so expect the Dodge to compete at or below the Scion price.

The Ford Bronco

Don’t expect Ford to sit back and watch from the sidelines as the market trends toward more Scion-like vehicles. In 2004 a concept Ford Bronco, taking styling cues from the 1966 Bronco truck, made its appearance at auto shows. Now, Ford appears ready to go ahead with the Bronco which will also be built in Mexico.

Featuring a boxy design, the Bronco will be similar in design to the xB and to the Hornet and will likely be built on the existing Fiesta platform to hold costs down. Indeed, Ford is hoping that a budget Bronco will sell for less than $10,000 as it battles cheap imports expected from China as well as other Generation “Y?vehicles on the market.

Yes, the car wars never end and more battles are certain to ensue. Both Nissan with its Versa and a tiny Toyota by the name of Yaris will soon be released and competing on the market before the Hornet and Bronco arrive in 2008 as 2009 models.

After market parts explained

By , January 12, 2018 3:37 pm

Aftermarket, OEM, replacement parts-you see these words in almost all auto parts stores online. What do these terms mean?

car, car parts, auto parts

For a passive buyer, these things are but ordinary terms used in the automotive market but for someone meticulous and who wants the best for his auto, these things matter considerably. Deciding which among these to purchase is just like deciding what car to buy.

O.E.M. stands for Original Equipment Manufactured. This means that OEM Ford parts are manufactured by Ford itself, Chevrolet parts are manufactured by Chevrolet, Toyota parts by Toyota, BMW parts by BMW and so on. The terms O.E.S. and OE are also used; these mean Original Equipment Supplied and Original Equipment, respectively. While in many cases, OEM and OES mean the same, OE is more general referring to any part that came as original equipment on the car. Some of OE car parts and components are not actually made by the car manufacturer but are purchased and assembled by the automakers to create a vehicle.

Those referred to as “aftermarket auto parts?are not made by the original car manufacturer; furthermore, they are bought and added to the vehicle only at the dealership or after the vehicle left the dealership. In terms of design and function, aftermarket products are almost the same as the stock auto parts since they are primarily used to replace a damaged original part so that the vehicle can continue to run. If you need replacement parts for your car, however, you can either buy O.E.M. or aftermarket auto parts. There are numerous sources of aftermarket auto parts. Stores like Auto Parts Discount give you a great variety of parts for almost all makes and models.

Some cars, especially the base models are not completely equipped so users just add aftermarket parts later on. For example if you have purchased an old Toyota Corolla, you can add aftermarket Toyota fog lights, Toyota spoiler, Toyota turn signal light or Toyota mirrors. Aftermarket products can also help you give your car a fresh new look. Even if your original parts are not yet damaged or worn out, you can replace them with or add specially designed aftermarket auto parts like Honda taillights, Ford center cap, Chevrolet chrome bumper, and Mercedes Benz Front Cover Towing Eye found at Auto Parts Discount.

Enthusiasts, on the other hand would opt for custom parts and specialty equipments. Compared to a universal fit auto part, which can be installed to any vehicle make, year and model, custom aftermarket products are designed to fit only a particular application. Examples of custom parts are your Ford hood, Ford fender and Ford doors. Specialty equipments on the other hand, are intended to make the vehicle more stylish, comfortable, convenient and more up-to-date.

Most auto users prefer aftermarket products because they are less expensive than OEM replacements. While it is true that there may be some aftermarket auto parts that do not meet high standards of original equipments, it is not right to say that aftermarket products are generally inferior in terms of quality and style. Replacement parts sold at Auto Parts Discount, for example are made by car parts manufacturers that are mandated by high international standards.

Which is better, OEM or aftermarket replacement part? It depends on the product. Some OEM parts are not durable enough while the aftermarket parts you use to replace them could last for many years. If you want to give your car a different look and also, if you want to save, aftermarket products are worth a try. However, make sure to get these replacement parts from trusted sources.

Arrive in Style: Types of Limousines You Can Rent

The limousine, also called the limo, has come to be associated with luxury, glamour and style.

travel, limousine hire

The limousine, also called the limo, has come to be associated with luxury, glamour and style. It is used by the government to transport the highest officials of the country. It is used by celebrities riding to red carpet events. It is used by millionaires, business tycoons, rock stars. If you’re important, you arrive in a limousine-and before you’ve even stepped out of the car, you’ve already made a grand entrance.

Even if you’re not a politician, celebrity, or important CEO, limousine hire enables you to borrow that high luxury life even for a few hours. It is often used in weddings, important gala nights, or as an upmarket competitor to taxicabs. And for every occasion, there are a number of limousine models that can be used.

The Lincoln Limousine

The Lincoln Limousine is like a large, long sedan, which gives the person riding in the backseat a great deal of comfortable legroom. Sometimes, additional seats are attached directly behind the driver, facing rearward. About five people can be seated in the back of the Lincoln Limousine, and two more with the driver.

However, most of the newer models do not have the additional seats, replacing them instead with video equipment like televisions and video players, as well as a fully-stocked bar.

The Stretch Limo

When you’ve got a chauffeur, parking is never a problem-and good thing, too. The stretch limo, a popular model for partygoers who want to make a grand, Hollywood style entrance, is extremely long. The seats are arranged alongside the length of the car, perpendicular to the driver. This allows groups of people to sit facing each other, making it easier to talk and perhaps even make a toast with the complimentary champagne. There is only one door, unlike other models which have multiple doors for the multiple rows of seats.

Winton Six Limousine

This classic car isn’t actually a true limousine, but a circa 1915 luxury vehicle that’s a cross between a sedan and a bus. It has multiple doors, with an area for carrying passengers?baggage. Because of its vintage feel and Old World charm, it still has a sense of glamour and luxury, further heightened by its rarity. It is sometimes called a “Jammer?and was once used to transport railroad passangers; today, it is the vehicle of choice of royalty in traditional processions. Ride it, and feel like a king.

Exotic custom limousines

You can actually hire the ultimate stretch limo, customized with luxury features. Some of these customizations employ cars like the Audi, BMW, Hummer, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz and Rollys Royce, although the more popular vehicles that are converted are the Lincoln Town Car, Cadillac DTS, Hummer H2, and the Lincoln Navigator. The typical additions are security features like armoring and bullet proof glass, as well as entertainment systems and even the occasional Jacuzzi.

Party bus

When it’s a large party-too large for a standard limousine-you can hire a party bus. This can comfortably seat 20 or more people, and can let you hold an event right in the vehicle (as opposed to just using it to drive to one). Features often include surround sound systems, a DVD player, plasma televisions, disco and strobe lights, and even smoke machines. Party buses are very popular for bachelor and bachelorette parties, proms, and tourist excursions. Some rent it for a special and unique birthday celebration.

Driving is an activity that needs not only the proper skills but it also needs the driver to have ultimate and great concentration on the road. Being focused on the activity itself gives the driver and its passengers greater chances of not meeting any kind of mishap, collision, crash, or accident.

Even experienced drivers still meet accidents when they become careless when driving. Try to take your eyes off the road for just a couple of seconds. Doing such greatly increases your chances of meeting a disaster. That is why automobile experts and drivers suggest that the best thing to do would be to avoid distractions at all costs. By avoiding them, you are also keeping yourself safe along with your passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians.

Try not to eat in the car. You see, when you are eating while driving, you tend to fumble around for the food. You could drop it or even try to drive using just one hand. Doing these things actually could be the cause of a major problem.

Avoid fiddling around with your car’s controls. It could be your radio, your car’s heaters, the air conditioner, or its mirrors. Experts suggest that if you would like to change the status of these controls, it would be better if you pulled over first and do the adjustments once you are safe on the side of the road. When everything has already been adjusted as per your preference, then would be the time to go back on the road. You may be wasting some minutes while doing so but remember that you are keeping yourself alive by doing that.

Cellular phones should not be used while driving. If you want to place a call, pull over first. That way, you can concentrate on dialing the right numbers and listening well on the conversation.

American Muscle: Ford, Dodge, and Chevy

By , December 29, 2017 6:27 am

522

America’s muscle car era peaked during the 1960s, but a new era may soon be returning thanks to the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and Chevy Camaro.

Gibson exhaust, Gibson headers, Gibson performance, mufflers, car parts, muscle cars, Camaro, Chevy

Back during the 1950s through the mid 1970s, Detroit automakers produced several cars that were out and out “muscle?cars. These types of vehicles shared the same characteristics: they were two door coupes with souped up engines, responsive transmissions, an aggressive exterior design, and a sporty interior. High fuel prices and changing tastes eventually limited sales to the point where only a few models were produced beyond that period of time. Today, muscle car mania is back, despite even higher gas prices. Thanks to the Ford Mustang and to a lesser extent to sedan and wagon models from Dodge, there is new interest in a category long given up. The future is bright for the muscle car segment as one more manufacturer, Chevrolet, considers bringing back one of its darlings of yesteryear, the Camaro.

Besides the Ford Mustang there were a whole host of vehicles produced that at one time or another might have been considered a muscle car. In addition to the Mustang, the Ford Fairlane 500 and Ford Torino did duty; the Mercury Montego was another model; Chevrolet produced the Camaro and Corvette; Pontiac the GTO, Firebird, and Tempest; Olds the 442; American Motors?had its Javelin; Plymouth had the ‘Cuda, and Dodge produced the Challenger and the Charger. Today, only the Mustang and Corvette survives although the Dodge Charger has returned as a four door muscle car along with its sibling, the hot Dodge Magnum wagon.

Interestedly, it took Ford’s redoing of the Mustang for the 2005 model year to stir the current muscle car era craze. Styled after Mustangs built in the 1960s, the current Mustang embraces a retro look while incorporating contemporary technology. The result has been that the Mustang currently sells its entire 150,000 model capacity without incentives.

The Mustang has been inspiring DaimlerChrysler to go ahead with a retro cruiser of its own. The Dodge Challenger concept car, appearing at auto shows across the USA, has been a huge hit and Chrysler plans on bringing the V8 hemi powered model back in 2009. In addition, General Motors is considering giving its blessing on the Camaro, another car also making the rounds of the USA auto show circuit.

So, isn’t it silly to bring back such gas hogs? Back during the early 1970s, the then current crop of muscle cars averaged only 10-12 miles to the gallon around town and 15 or 16 miles per gallon on the highway. Thanks to computer technology and efficiency, even the Corvette returns a highly respectable 28 miles to the gallon the highway. So, although fuel mileage will certainly be lower than many other models, the new group of muscle cars will still better the previous generation cars with fuel mileage 80% or more above the cars from the 1970s.

Fortunately, we still live in a fairly free country and what the consumer wants, the consumer gets. So, V8 powered muscle cars mated to 6 speed manu-matic transmissions, with sport handling, bucket seats, and better fuel economy will likely appeal to many. No, they won’t be exact duplicates of yesterday’s muscle cars, but they will provide the nostalgia and power that motorists seek. I can’t wait!
